|Notes:||At the core of Deaf 911 is the insight that everyone should be given access to emergency services. No matter who they are. No matter what their condition.
This idea of democratization is made possible with a unique application of assistive technology. By combining speech-to-text (STT) and text-to-speech technology (TTS), we were able to create clear two-way conversations between deaf people and 911 dispatchers.
And we did so in a mobile app, in real-time, in just 30 seconds—roughly the same time it takes for hearing people. That’s an average handle time (AHT) reduction of 80%, compared to existing emergency deaf devices and services.
The app also provides immediate response to questions with the help of smart reply messaging. Saving even more valuable seconds by replacing actual texting with a simple tap or two.
By quickly connecting to 911 dispatchers, this mobile app can greatly impact the daily lives of deaf people facing a wide range of emergencies. At last, there’s a solution giving the deaf a voice when they need it most.
