Cresta Awards reward cutting edge

From data to AI to innovations in coding, it’s a wonderful world…

One of the big delights in going through this year’s winners is to once again note how this competition gives a manageable and focused viewing on where innovation in technology is happening in creative communications.

And Cresta Awards 2024 is arguably the most instructive yet, a primer of ideas on how to shake up media.

For example, we continue to be delighted to see work coming through in Data Visualisation. One highlight there this year is Serviceplan’s Space Trash Signs campaign (image above), a Gold winner, which combines high tech knowhow and considerable complexity of project planning, to ultimately deliver a simple and clear executional idea that hits home hard on the alarming problem of trash in space.

A Gold winner that innovates with and subverts an existing media is The Impossible Campus from DDB Budapest for Cinego.

This uses the additional audio track feature on the streaming service to build out a film lecture series within the filming programme, an ingenious way of getting around repressive laws.

It’s worth sifting through all the winning entries, and the shortlist, to assemble a fantastic toolkit of insights and directions.
