Notes: Every year hundreds of media organizations such as publishing houses and newspapers are banned by autocratic regimes. But the enemies of press freedom have only won when these disappeared newspapers are also forgotten. Reporters Without Borders has set itself the goal of preventing this to happen. Therefore, we reconstruct the house typefaces of closed newspapers and make them available to international artists. These artists then set an example for worldwide press freedom – through the power of typography alone.

To obtain a complete character set of the disappeared fonts, we first reconstructed them step by step. Afterwards we made the reconstructed fonts available to a wide variety of international artists. These artists used them to create the "Posters For Press Freedom", which were then used in an out of home campaign, published online and even got exhibited in the German National Library – one of Germanys most important exhibition halls. The posters made clear: there is no freedom without press freedom.
