Raised in a tranquil and typical German small town near Frankfurt am Main, Joern kicked off his career in the industry as a junior copywriter — only to find himself three months later on the glamorous set of the first TV commercial he had ever written. From that day on, the thrill of the advertising business (or whatever you might call it nowadays) never left him. Following stints in big international agencies, including TBWA, Saatchi & Saatchi and Publicis, Joern joined Cheil Germany in 2011 as part of a group of people with the clear vision to turn Samsung’s then small local in-house advertising shop into the entire “digital experience company” it is today. During his time at Cheil, he co-led the creative work on the Samsung Mobile account, helping the Korean brand reach the top spot of “Most loved brands” in Germany for the first time. In 2018, Joern also became a member of the agency board, taking on broader responsibilities in the overall management and direction of Cheil in Germany. Along that path, Joern managed to win almost every major award across a wide range of categories. Under his creative co-leadership, Cheil Germany earned itself a top spot among Europe's leading digital agencies, and has been constantly listed among the Top 10 of Germany’s digital creative agencies since 2016. After more than a decade with Cheil, Joern took on a new journey with boutique digital and social media creative agency la red in Berlin. He is a member of the German Art Directors Club and the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences. Married and with a grown-up son, Joern splits most of his private life between running, making coffee, cooking, and carefully restoring a historic building on an island in the Baltic Sea. He even codes stuff on computers in a yet unsuccessful attempt to develop an AI algorithm that could balance all of his interests evenly.
